Canucks' Kesler out indefinitely with broken foot

The SportsXchange

Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler will miss up to six weeks with a fractured right foot, the team announced Wednesday.

Kesler missed the first 12 games this season while recovering from shoulder and wrist surgeries. He returned Feb. 15 and played in seven games with the Canucks, including three after suffering the broken foot Feb. 21 against Dallas. Kessler had five points in those seven games.

Canucks coach Alan Vigneault didn't specify exactly how long Kesler would be out, but he said that most fractures require four-to-six weeks of recovery time.

"We don't know how long it is yet and as soon as we find out, we'll share it with you," Vigneault said. "Any fracture is usually 4-6 weeks depending on the nature of the fracture. Some are less, hairline fractures or whatever. So I haven't gotten any length from our doctors how long this one is going to be."

Vigneault said Wednesday that Andrew Ebbett would most likely be recalled from the American League's Chicago Wolves to take Kesler's spot on the roster.
