Canucks' Hansen suspended, Predators' Clune fined

The SportsXchange

The NHL announced Wednesday night that it had suspended Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen and fined Nashville Predators forward Rich Clune.

Hansen was suspended by the league's Department of Player Safety for one game for roughing Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa in a game at Chicago on Tuesday.

In addition, Hansen was docked one game's pay, or $7,297.30, the league said. The money will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Hansen leveled Hossa early in the third period of Tuesday's game. Hossa was listed Wednesday as day-to-day by the Blackhawks. He suffered a concussion in the opening round of last season's playoffs when he was viciously hit by Phoenix's Raffi Torres, who was suspended for 21 games as a result.

As for Nashville's Clune, he was fined $1,452.70 by the league's Department of Player Safety for illegally boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Aaron Palushaj on Monday. Like Hansen, Clune's fine goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
