Canucks acquire C Roy from Stars

The Dallas Stars traded center Derek Roy to the Vancouver Canucks for a second-round draft pick and defenseman Kevin Connauton on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Roy, 29, has four goals and 18 assists in 30 games this season for the Stars, who obtained Roy in July in a trade with Buffalo for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy.

With center Manny Malhotra injured, Roy could fill a void on the Canucks' third line.

A unrestricted free agent after the season, Roy played in Buffalo for seven seasons and totaled 161 goals and 427 points in 549 games. He had a career-best 32 goals and 49 assists in 2008 for the Sabres.

Connauton, 23, a third-round draft pick in 2009 by the Canucks, was considered Vancouver's top defensive prospect. He has seven goals, 24 points and 67 penalty minutes in 60 games with Chicago of the American Hockey League this season.
