Cano plunked, leaves for X-rays on left hand
The New York Yankees lost their offensive leader to an injury in the first inning of Tuesday's game at Toronto.
Second baseman Robinson Cano was hit on the left hand by a pitch thrown by Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ. Cano stayed in the game and scored a run, but he exited before the bottom of the first. He was diagnosed with a bruised hand and was undergoing precautionary X-rays.
Cano came home on an Alfonso Soriano homer that capped the Yankees' four-run rally. Eduardo Nunez replaced Cano at second base.
Cano leads the Yankees in each of the Triple Crown categories, as he's batting .305 with 24 homers and 85 RBIs. He's hit safely in 18 of the 21 games in which he's had an official at-bat, batting .390 (32-for-82) in that span.
Over the past seven years, Cano has never missed more than two games in a season. He was selected to the American League All-Star team for the fifth time this year.
Cano is a two-time Gold Glove winner and a four-time Silver Slugger winner.
