ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- Candy Boy rallied to beat Chitu by a half-length Saturday in the $200,000 Palos Verdes Stakes at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Gary Stevens, the 3-year-old colt ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.83 and paid $6.60, $3.20 and $2.20. Candy Boy also picked up 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby.

Chitu returned $5 and $3, and Midnight Hawk paid $2.10 to show.

The victory, worth $120,000, boosted Candy Boy's earnings to $305,600.

Trainer John Sadler said it was likely that Candy Boy will run in the $1 million Grade I Santa Anita Derby on April 5.

''For a big horse he has a lot of acceleration and confidence on the (last) turn,'' Stevens said. ''I was already thinking about the Santa Anita Derby as we were galloping out around the turn. He's a super, majorly talented racehorse.''

Meanwhile, Vagabond Shoes beat Si Sage by 1 1/4 lengths in the $200,000 San Marcos Stakes.
