Defenseman Douglas Murray signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
The Pittsburgh Penguins did not offer Murray a contract in free agency. The 33-year-old split last season between San Jose and Pittsburgh.
He's a defense-only third-line defender whose forte is toughness. At 6-3, 240, he fits Montreal's offseason mission to add more grit.
Murray isn't guaranteed a roster spot. He's the ninth defenseman under contract for the 2013-14 season.
