Canadiens' Parros sustains concussion in fight
Montreal Canadiens enforcer George Parros suffered a concussion during a fight with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Colton Orr on Tuesday night in a season-opening game.
Parros was taken off the ice on a stretcher and to a local hospital. Tests indicated that Parros had no additional injuries, TVA Sports reported.
The winer was released from the hospital on Wednesday and the team announced on Twitter later in the day that he is out indefinitely.
The incident occurred in the third period of the Canadiens' 4-3 victory in Montreal. Parros fell face-first onto the ice and lay motionless for several minutes before he was carted off on a stretcher in a scary opening-game scene.
When he arrived at the hospital, he was reported to be awake and alert. Later, he tweeted, "Thanks for all the well wishes everyone."
Orr and Parros have a history of engaging in fights. The two have gone at it several times during the past few seasons. Two years ago, Orr sustained a concussion in a run-in with Parros that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
"You never want to see a guy get hurt like that," Orr said, according to ESPN.com. "It was a scary situation. I just hope he's all right. It happened fast. I slipped, and he came on top of me. The ice isn't going to give."
The 33-year-old Parros is in his first season with the Canadiens after one season with the Florida Panthers and the previous six years with the Anaheim Ducks.
