Canadiens' Eller carted off after hit

The SportsXchange

Montreal Canadiens forward Lars Eller was removed on a stretcher after he fell face-first on the ice from the impact of a violent hit during Thursday night's NHL playoff game against the Ottawa Senators.

Senators defenseman Eric Gryba smacked into Eller, who had his head down, after a pass from Montreal defenseman Raphael Diaz was slightly behind him.

Eller was bleeding profusely, but he later sat up on the ice before he was placed on a stretcher and taken from Bell Center to a local hospital. A pool of blood was left near the Canadiens' blue line.

"Lars Eller suffered head and facial injury," the Canadiens said. "He is conscious and alert. He has been taken to the hospital for further examination and will remain under observation."
