LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) -- The United States scored four goals in a 3:55 span of the first period and cruised to a 10-0 victory over Sweden in the Four Nations Cup women's hockey tournament Tuesday night.

Gigi Marvin and Kendall Coyne scored two goals apiece.

The U.S. got power-play goals from captain Meghan Duggan, Coyne and Anne Schleper in the first period burst that was capped by Marvin's even-strength goal.

Alex Carpenter and Kelli Stack each had a goal and two assists, while Hilary Knight and Jocelyne Lamoureux added a goal and an assist apiece.

The U.S. outshot Sweden 59-8.

The event features four of the six teams headed to the Sochi Winter Olympics in February. Earlier, Canada defeated Finland 3-1 on first-period goals by Rebecca Johnston and Natalie Spooner.

Play resumes Wednesday with Finland skating against Sweden, followed by the U.S. and Canada.
