Cambiasso: Inter has not lost the hunger to win

Esteban Cambiasso has dismissed the notion that Inter is no longer a force after claiming that he and his teammates are still hungry to lift trophies.

The Nerazzurri finished sixth in Serie A during 2011-12 and crashed out of the Champions League to Marseille in the round of 16.

Their failure over the past campaign has led many to suggest that Inter's winning cycle has ended, but Cambiasso maintains the club will not endure a similar plight again.

"When you're not winning you are suffering, because we were used to always bringing home a trophy," the 31-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The changes of coaches had a significant impact on this bad season. We were accused of not having any more hunger or desire to win, but it is not like that. We still have a great desire to win."

Cambiasso then went on to admit that he had even shed tears in the 2-2 draw at home to Catania shortly after being replaced, but vowed to prove his critics wrong next season.

"I cried because of the bad time that we were going through, certainly not because of the substitution," he revealed. "Everyone said that I was untouchable, but it was not so. I still have much to contribute to the team. I'm still a major player."

Nevertheless, the Argentine was optimistic about Inter's transfer plans, most notably the signing of Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa, but was tight-lipped on the prospect of Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi joining the club.

"Palacio will surely give us a big hand and we hope that next year will be better than this one," he concluded. "I do not know if Lavezzi will join Inter. We will have to see after August 31."
