Cam Newton suffers possible concussion when he eases up before scoring

Play to the whistle, everyone.

Cam Newton apparently thought he was going to stroll into the end zone on a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Falcons, so he slowed up. Falcons linebacker Deion Jones kept playing though, and slammed into Newton right as he (barely) crossed the goal line. Newton never seemed to see Jones, but it wouldn’t have been an issue if Newton ran into the end zone instead of easing up.

Newton went down and his teammates got upset even though Jones’ hit was legal.

A few moments later Newton went to the locker room to get evaluated for a concussion and never returned to the ballgame. Derek Anderson replaced him in the 48-33 defeat.

Newton has taking a lot of hits so far this season. The one that knocked him out of Sunday’s game was unnecessary, and his own fault.
