California Institute of Technology ended a 228-game losing streak in baseball on Saturday when it beat Pacifica 9-7.
It was Caltech's first victory since Feb. 15, 2003, and came in the second game of a season-opening doubleheader. The Beavers lost the first game 5-0, but won the second game with a complete-game seven-inning victory by freshman Daniel Chou.
Caltech, a Division III program in most sports, still has not won a game in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action since 1988, having lost 463 conference games in a row.
Caltech's men's basketball team ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011.
