Calmest fan ever makes baby-saving catch with zero celebration

At the game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins on Sunday, the world may have seen the widest gap between the sheer awesomeness of a fan catch and that fan’s reaction. Normally when a fan makes an incredible catch, there’s a lot of jumping and celebrating and high-fiving. But this fan played it totally cool after his superb, baby-saving catch.

It was the bottom of the second inning at Citizens Bank Park, and Phillies right fielder Aaron Altherr was facing Marlins pitcher Andrew Cashner. Altherr knocked the 1-2 pitch foul, and it was a laser toward the stands behind the third base line. It was the kind of foul ball that was traveling so fast that you worry that it might hit someone.

But this Phillies fan had finely honed reflexes, and he didn’t let the ball get any farther than his hand.

That is a thing of beauty. He made the catch with no glove, and he didn’t even have to stand up. He cradled the ball with his hand, saving the people behind him, including a tiny baby! One of the guys in the Phillies TV booth said “That was the best catch I’ve ever seen. Ever. Like, ever.”

If his hand stung from that catch, he didn’t show it.

He’s not shaking out his hand, or admiring the baseball. He’s not even high fiving the fans around him! That fan is one cool cat.
