NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Donald Johnson tallied a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 boards, to lead Cal State Bakersfield over New Jersey Institute of Technology 72-70 in overtime on Wednesday night.
The Roadrunners (15-14) held on despite scoring just one point in the final 1:26. After Stephon Carter's layup put them up 71-68 with 1 1/2 minutes to play, the Roadrunners had trouble finding the hoop.
Luckily, their defense stepped up and N.J.I.T. (11-16) was having the same problem.
After Isaiah Wilkerson sank two foul shots to pull the Highlanders within 71-70, they committed two turnovers and missed two shots. In the meantime, Cal State Bakersfield's Rashad Savage hit 1 of 2 free throws with 6 seconds to play to clinch the win.
N.J.I.T.'s Chris Flores, who led the team with 23 points, sank two foul shots with 22 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
