Cabrera's hip injury keeps him out of lineup

Miguel Cabrera's aching left hip kept him out of the Detroit Tigers' lineup Tuesday.

The reigning American League MVP aggravated the hip's flexor muscle while running the bases during Monday's 7-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. He left the game during the fifth inning.

"It felt weird," Cabrera said after the game. "It felt real weird. That base hit that Victor (Martinez) had, I tried to pick it up a little bit from second to home. That's why I had to go out."

Detroit manager Jim Leyland refused to speculate on the possibility of Cabrera going on the disabled list. "He's not playing tonight. That's all I can tell you," he said before Tuesday's game. Don Kelly got the start at third.

Cabrera entered the day leading Major League Baseball with a .358 batting average and was second in the American League in home runs (31) and RBI (96).
