The Detroit Tigers announced on Twitter that standout third baseman Miguel Cabrera is day to day after leaving Thursday's game with discomfort in his abdominal area.

Cabrera was injured in the fifth inning when he slid into second base trying to stretch a single into a double during the Tigers' 7-6 victory over the Oakland A's. He limped off the field and spoke with trainers and manager Jim Leyland.

After the game, Cabrera told reporters that he expects to be back in the lineup on Friday night when the American League Central-leading Tigers begin a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians.

"I'm OK," Cabrera said. "I'll play -- don't worry."

The 2012 Triple Crown winner has battled nagging injuries in his groin, hip, leg and abdominal area this season. Cabrera still has managed to make a strong big for another Triple Crown this year with 43 home runs, 130 RBIs and a .359 batting average.
