C.J. Spiller Likely to Play Against Baltimore Ravens Despite Thigh Injury

COMMENTARY | Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller was limited to 10 carries against the New York Jets before leaving the game with a thigh injury.

According to reports coming out of Buffalo today, it appears that Spiller will suit up Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens and he shouldn't be limited in his touches or the amount of time he's on the field.

"A little sore but shouldn't be anything that will keep me out this week," Spiller told the media. "Should be feeling better day to day, but just taking it slow."

It sounds like this is the kind of injury he could have played through but he didn't want to risk a bigger injury so early in the season.

"Ultimately I just came out of the game because, to me, I'm not going to put my team in jeopardy," Spiller explained. "And then also, I have to protect myself. The best thing for me to do is swallow my pride at the moment and let my other guys go in there and fight."

After the game Spiller vented to the media that the Jets were trying to force him to the edges of the field and the pounding was part of the reason he injured his thigh and had to remove himself from the game.

"They wanted me to bounce it," Spiller complained to ESPN. "They put a lot of people in the box and dared our passing game to beat them. If I'm a defensive coordinator, that would be my biggest thing, too, is to stop our run and pretty much make our rookie quarterback beat us," he said.

Sure, having a rookie quarterback will give Buffalo's offense some growing pains, but this is exactly the time when they need Spiller to step up and have a bunch of carries while racking up big yards.

It will be interesting to see if Spiller is able to turn around what has been a slow start. He rushed for 1,244 yard last season but has only rushed 43 times for 153 yards and no touchdowns so far this season.

The Bills need Spiller to step up if they want to compete for a playoff spot this season.
