Bye Week Replacements for Week 6: Fan’s Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

With just hours left before the opening kickoff of Sunday football action, those fantasy GMs who haven't checked their teams since last week could see some holes because of the bye. The Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints are all off this week, leaving several marquee players on the bench. At this point in the fantasy season, losing players to the bye could be catastrophic, but there are several players in the free agent pool that should help relieve some of the stress.

Off: Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers

Replace With: Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

Smith continues to see the revitalization of his NFL career with Cam Newton at quarterback. Despite their issues on offense this season, Smith has 21 catches for 388 yards. One possible replacement is Moore. Moore doesn't have the best numbers this season, but the Raiders are playing the Atlanta Falcons, who are prone to allowing a big play or two. Moore could be in line to get one of those plays.

Off: Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

Replace With: Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers

Take away his terrible performance against the Green Bay Packers in week two and Cutler would be one of the top quarterbacks in the league this season. He has been solid for the 4-1 Bears, but could be replaced by the QB from another 4-1 team. Smith has been a different player since Jim Harbaugh took over the coaching job and he is still flying under the radar of fantasy GMs. He will never put up Tom Brady numbers, but could be a valuable bye week replacement.

Off: Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars

Replace With: Alex Green, Green Bay Packers

MJD has been solid for the Jaguars yet again this season, rushing for 408 yards on 84 carries with two overall touchdowns. Jacksonville may be off a terrible start, but MJD remains one of the top players in the league at running back. Green could be an interesting replacement, considering Cedric Benson is out. This one is a little difficult, as Green Bay may decide to go with James Starks, but I think Green would be the better option.

Off: Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

Replace With: Scott Chandler, Buffalo Bills

Graham is coming off a one catch game a week ago, but he is still one of the best tight ends in the NFL. Chandler could be a perfect replacement for the former collegiate basketball player. The Buffalo offense has been on a roll this season and Chandler has benefited with 16 catches for 215 yards and four touchdowns. His TD total is what makes him worth the start this week.
