Butler 64, Gonzaga 63

INDIANAPOLIS -- Roosevelt Jones intercepted an inbounds pass near halfcourt, then drove and scored a floating layup as time expired to give No. 13 Butler a stunning 64-63 win over No. 8 Gonzaga on Saturday night.

All hope looked lost for Butler after Alex Barlow traveled with 3.5 seconds remaining, but Jones grabbed David Stockton's pass and scored the game winner. Students rushed the court in shock and jubilation, even as the play was being reviewed. The basket stood and the celebration commenced.

Jones scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Butler (16-2), which won without leading scorer Rotnei Clarke. The senior guard was out after injuring his neck the previous Saturday against Dayton.

Kellen Dunham scored 14 points for Butler, which shot 50 percent from the field.

Elias Harris and Sam Dower each scored 20 points and Kelly Olynyk added 14 for Gonzaga (17-2).

Butler made 7 of 13 threes in the first half. Dower, who entered the game averaging 7.2 points, had 16 at halftime.

Dunham hit a 3-pointer early in the second half, then hit two of three free throws after he was fouled on a 3-pointer to give Butler a 39-36 lead.

Butler drew the third foul on Olynyk with just under 14 minutes remaining and the fourth on Mike Hart with 11:29 to play.

Chase Stigall found Andrew Smith cutting to the basket for a dunk to give Butler a 48-44 advantage.

Butler drew the fourth foul on Harris with 5:30 remaining, and Jones made one of two free throws to give Butler a 53-50 lead. Khyle Marshall's jumper from the free-throw line gave Butler a five-point lead. And Butler drew the fourth on Olynyk with 3:43 remaining.

Stockton's 3-pointer cut Butler's lead to 56-55, and a few minutes later, Harris scored in close to give Gonzaga a 59-58 lead.

Jones scored on a floater, but Harris came right back with a bank shot to give Gonzaga the lead.

Barlow's driving layup with 20.6 seconds left gave Butler a 62-61 lead.

Olynyk was fouled with 4.6 seconds left, and he made both free throws to give Gonzaga a 63-62 lead. Barlow traveled to set up the final sequence.

Gonzaga built a 33-32 halftime lead.

A 3-pointer by Kevin Pangos and baskets by Dower and Harris gave Gonzaga an 11-4 lead. Another jumper by Dower after a timeout extended Gonzaga's lead to 13-4.

Butler hung tough, and a 3-pointer by Dunham cut Gonzaga's lead to 18-14. Stigall followed with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 18-17.

Harris, the team's No. 2 scorer, picked up his second foul with 8:58 left in the half. The Bulldogs took advantage as Dunham hit another three to give Butler a 22-20 lead.

Gonzaga pulled back ahead 30-26 with a basket by Olynyk and a pair of free throws by Dower.

Butler rallied again, and a 3-pointer by Stigall gave the Bulldogs a 32-30 lead with just over a minute left in the first half.

Dower hit a 3-pointer to give Gonzaga a 33-32 lead, then he swatted Marshall at the buzzer to preserve the lead at halftime.
