Bulls land Dunleavy; sign Snell, Murphy

The SportsXchange

Guard/forward Mike Dunleavy signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, who also signed rookie draft picks Tony Snell (20th overall) and Erik Murphy (49th).

Terms of the rookie deals were not disclosed.

Dunleavy spent the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. He'll come off the bench in Chicago with the Bulls likely to lose Nate Robinson in addition to Marco Belinelli, who signed a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

"We are extremely excited to add Mike to our team," Bulls general manager Gar Forman said. "He was a priority for us from the second free agency began and we feel he will be a terrific fit for us, both on and off the floor."

Dunleavy, who can play either shooting guard or small forward, has never finished a season on a team with a winning record. Signing with the Bulls gives him a chance to change that.

Dunleavy, 32, averaged 10.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while playing 75 games for the Bucks last season. He shot 42.8 percent from 3-point range, which was the best of his career.

Snell, a 6-7, 200-pound guard out of the University of New Mexico, was the MVP of the Mountain West Tournament last season after helping the Lobos win the regular-season title and conference tournament. He leaves New Mexico 10th in school history with 434 career three-pointers made.

Murphy, a 6-10, 230-pound forward from the University of Florida, earned first-team All-SEC honors as a senior by averaging 12.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Snell and Murphy will make their first appearance in a Bulls uniform later this week at the NBA Summer League 2013 in Las Vegas.
