Bucs sign C Dietrich-Smith

The SportsXchange

Gone from Green Bay, unrestricted free agent center Evan Dietrich-Smith signed with the active Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

His contract is worth $14.2 million over four seasons.

Dietrich-Smith joins new left tackle Anthony Collins on the rebuilt offensive line in Tampa under head coach Lovie Smith. Collins, who started for the first time last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, signed a five-year, $30 million with the Buccaneers on Thursday.

Dietrich-Smith can play guard or center, where he started last season and late in the 2012 season as a replacement for Jeff Saturday.

Dietrich-Smith is the first free agent to leave the Packers this offseason. M.D. Jennings signed with the Chicago Bears, but he was not tendered a contract as a restricted free agent despite making 16 starts in 2013.

Center Jeremy Zuttah could still return to the Buccaneers and be used as a swing backup or at guard, depending at which position Dietrich-Smith settles.

Left tackle Donald Penn guard David Joseph were released by the Buccaneers this week.
