The Bucs are preparing DE Da’Quan Bowers for increased playing time in Week Nine coming off his 2012 season debut.
Bowers was activated from the PUP list last week and played 12 snaps (all on third downs) in Tampa Bay’s Week Eight win over the Vikings. He had been out since May after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
We’re told the club was very happy with Bowers’ conditioning while he rehabbed and it has made for a relatively smooth transition for him as he returns to the field. The team is increasing his workload in practice and our sources say the Bucs will play him as much as 25-30 snaps in their Week Nine game at Oakland if he responds well in practice this week.
Bowers, the 51st overall pick in 2011 draft, recorded 25 tackles, 1½ sacks, four QB hits and four passes defensed as a rookie, when he played in all 16 games and started six contests.
