Buccaneers place LB Black on I.R

The Buccaneers made re-signing OLB Quincy Black a priority last offseason and acted quickly to lock him up after the lockout ended. With two years of starting experience under his belt, GM Mark Dominik sensed Black was just entering his prime in his fifth season and signed him to a five-year deal that included $11.5 million guaranteed.

Black was one of the many Bucs players who the front office felt underperformed in 2011, though.

He missed time with injuries for a second straight season, and although he spent most of his time on the strong side, the Bucs also used him on the weak side. Focusing on either the strong or weak side could serve him well, but the new head coach and defensive coordinator will decide where he fits best. The pressure on Black to live up to his contract will be turned up as the Bucs' defense looks to bounce back from a season in which it set a franchise record for points allowed.
