While a full measure of his progress will not be possible until there is a defense lining up across from the Buccaneers in a game situation, the team’s coaching staff has been very encouraged by the dedication and attention to detail displayed by QB Josh Freeman this offseason.
Coming off a season in which his decision-making appeared to severely regress, a slimmed-down Freeman is trying to put a disappointing 2011 campaign behind him, and the Bucs committed major resources to help him in that effort. After spending big in free agency to sign a true No. 1 WR in Vincent Jackson and one of the league’s top guards in Carl Nicks before trading into the back end of the first round to land one of the draft’s most complete backs in Doug Martin, the Bucs have given Freeman an improved supporting cast.
The Bucs are confident that they have created an environment Freeman will make major strides in with training camp on the horizon.
