Bucs' Bowers has gun charge dismissed

The SportsXchange

A judge dismissed a felony charge against Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers Thursday following a February arrest for allegedly bringing a handgun into a New York airport, USA Today reported.

Bowers instead pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, a violation that carries no jail time or probation, his lawyer, Dennis Coppin, told the paper. He paid a $250 fine and $120 surcharge.

Bowers was arrested in February when he told LaGuardia Airport employees that he had a gun in his bag while checking in for a flight to Raleigh, N.C.

"(Da'Quan is) very happy, and honestly the Queens County District Attorney's office investigated the case thoroughly and he was honest when he had the gun," Coppin said. "He turned it over to the first gate agent he saw. He did the right thing, and they did the right thing in their investigation."
