The Buccaneers announced Friday that they have re-signed OG-OT Derek Hardman and released DL Wallace Gilberry.
Hardman, a third-year pro out of Eastern Kentucky, adds needed depth to a Bucs O-line that has been hit by injuries. ORT Jeremy Trueblood could miss Sunday's game with an ankle injury and OLG Carl Nicks is likely to play despite a toe injury.
Hardman was released last week when the Bucs brought back veteran CB Brandon McDonald. As a rookie in 2010, he joined the active roster in October and started at right guard for the final four games of the season.
Last season, Hardman was inactive for 13 of 16 games. He spent this preseason with the Bucs.
Gilberry, a versatile veteran D-lineman, has now been cut by the team twice since signing with Tampa this summer as a free agent. He was one of the final cutdowns in late August but was re-signed before Week One. He played for the Chiefs the previous four seasons and has 14 career sacks.
The team clearly believes that OL depth is a bigger need than DL depth at this stage of the season.
