Buccaneers to retire Sapp's No. 99

The SportsXchange

Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp, one of the most feared players of the mid to late 90s, will have his No. 99 jersey retired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Warren Sapp is clearly one of the most iconic players in franchise history," Buccaneers co-chairman Bryan Glazer said at Thursday's press conference. "There really was no other choice."

A six-time All-Pro defensive lineman, Sapp will join former defensive end Lee Roy Selmon as the only players in franchise history to have their numbers retired.

Sapp spent nine of his 13-year NFL career with Tampa Bay, from 1995-2003, and recorded 77 sacks and 15 forced fumbles in 130 games. He added 19 1/2 more sacks and four more forced fumbles in four seasons with the Oakland Raiders.
