Recommendation: "This guy is a special potential closer with the makeup of a closer," Dombrowski said. "Normally you're not going to thrust that in a young guy's hands and say automatically, 'That's your job,' but it would not surprise me if he earned that job." Control may be the only significant hurdle for Rondon to overcome in order to become the Tigers' closer, but it's also worth noting that there are a handful of other options at manager Jim Leyland's disposal including Joaquin Benoit, Phil Coke, Al Alburquerque and Octavio Dotel. Still, Dombrowski's praise of Rondon should at least put him on the radar if the Tigers fail to add an established option to replace Jose Valverde this winter. Rondon hits triple digits on the radar gun and has experience closing in the minors including 29 saves over three levels in 2012.
