Browns snag Jason Campbell

National Football Post

The Cleveland Browns wanted to provide themselves with a fallback option and perhaps some competition for Brandon Weeden at quarterback, and may have done just that by signing veteran Jason Campbell.

Campbell, who spent last season with the Chicago Bears, is a former starter for both the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders during his eight-year NFL career.

“Jason is an established leader who has started a number of games in this league and has had success,” said Browns coach Rob Chudzinski. “He brings us a veteran presence and a good set of physical tools. He played in a similar system when he was in Oakland and that will help in his transition.”

At the very least, it provides the Browns another quarterback to push Weeden, last year's first-round pick, and Colt McCoy, who had started before Weeden was given the job last year.
