The Cleveland Browns on Wednesday announced they have signed free agent offensive lineman Rashad Butler to a one-year contract.
Butler, 30, comes to the Browns after six seasons with the Houston Texans. He was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (89th overall) of the 2006 draft.
He was claimed off waivers by the Texans after being released by the Panthers in early September 2007.
Butler has played in 41 NFL games, including four starts. He spent the entire 2012 season on injured reserve with an triceps injury.
He was primarily a tackle, including playing in all 16 games in 2010, with four of those being starting assignments.
Butler spent four years as a letterman at the University of Miami from 2002 through 2005, starting 23 of 38 games and appearing at both right and left tackle.
