BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Browns outside linebacker Quentin Groves has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of this season because of an ankle injury.
Coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday that Groves will have surgery on his left ankle later this week. After signing a two-year free-agent contract with Cleveland in March, Groves appeared in just five games. He was limited after he sprained his ankle against Baltimore on Sept. 15.
He finished with two sacks, including one last week in a win over the Ravens. Groves re-injured his ankle in that game.
Groves was listed as a backup to starter Paul Kruger, but the 6-foot-3, 265-pounder was part of the Browns' pass-rush package.
Browns captain D'Qwell Jackson says the club will miss Groves' energy on the field and enthusiasm off it.
