Browns cut Jason Campbell

The Cleveland Browns cut veteran backup quarterback Jason Campbell today, general manager Ray Farmer announced.

The Browns also cut former starting quarterback Brandon Weeden today.

Campbell passed for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions with 2,015 yards and a quarterback rating of 76.9 last season as he started eight games.

For his career, Campbell, who has also played for the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders, has passed for 16,697 yards, 87 touchdowns and 60 interceptions.

“We appreciate Jason’s contributions to the Browns in 2013. He’s a respected veteran player in this league. We felt like at this time, early in the free-agency period, we would give him a better opportunity to move forward. We wish Jason the best in his future endeavors.”
