STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Anthony Brown scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds in helping Stanford win its third straight, beating Texas Southern 97-71 Thursday night as part of the Progressive Legends Classic.
Josh Huestis matched his season-high with 18 points as five players reached double figures for the Cardinal (4-1). Chasson Randle added 15, Aaron Bright 12 and Dwight Powell 11.
Aaric Murray scored 28 points to lead the Tigers (2-4), who lost their fourth straight. Jose Rodriguez added 24.
Stanford advances to the championship round, which takes place Monday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and will play Houston.
Stanford led at halftime, 51-44.
The Cardinal opened the second half on an 11-2 run, taking a 62-46 edge with 13:29 remaining to play on a pair of free throws from Randle.
Huestis hit a 3-pointer to give Stanford a 21-point lead two minutes later and the Cardinal cruised from there.
Huestis blocked three shots to take over sole possession of fourth place on Stanford's career blocked shot list with 133. He had been tied with Matt Haryasz.
Stanford will play its preliminary round game against South Dakota State on Dec. 1, just before the school takes its traditional two-week break for finals.
Texas Southern won the SWAC regular-season title last year, though the school was ineligible for postseason competition due to NCAA sanctions which had nothing to do with current coach Mike Davis, who was hired about a month before the season started last October.
