Brown acquire Moffitt from Seahawks

Offensive guard John Moffitt was acquired by the Cleveland Browns, who sent defensive lineman Brian Sanford to the Seattle Seahawks.

A third-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2011, Moffitt has started 15 of 17 career games he has played in. He started his first nine games as rookie and appeared set to be a fixture on Seattle's offensive line for years before a knee injury ended his season. He was also suspended while injured for taking medication to treat hyperactivity that included a banned substance, and had a few minor off-field incidents in Seattle as well.

The Seahawks drafted J.R. Sweezy in 2012, and the former defensive lineman has been competing with Moffitt for the starting right guard job ever since.

"We continue to look each day of the year for any opportunity to improve our roster," said CEO Joe Banner following Cleveland's fourth trade involving a player since April 1. "We're committed to a building a team that can consistently compete in this league."

The 6-4, 319-pound Moffitt also has experience at center.

"John's a tough and versatile lineman who will be in the mix for us upfront," said Browns coach Rob Chudzinski.

Moffitt was a popular player in Seattle known for his outgoing personality - everything from pictures of him on Halloween dressed in "Hooter's" shorts to being a regular on sports talk shows as well as "The Real Rob Report," an online show hosted by Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson.
