Broncos strike deal with Hanie

National Football Post

Caleb Hanie now inherits what up until last year was the easiest job in the NFL - backing up Peyton Manning with the Denver Broncos. He agreed to a two-year deal, according to ESPNChicago.com.

Hanie fell out of favor with the Bears after strugging last season once Jay Cutler was lost for the season. He was eventually benched in favor of Josh McCown at the end of the year.

Prior to last season, Hanie had played well in spot duty, filling in when Cutler was injured in the 2010 NFC Championship Game and keeping the Bears in the contest.

Now, he has an important role in Denver, because with Manning's neck injury cast at least a bit of uncertainty on his durability, Hanie is the dreaded "one play away" for the Broncos.
