DENVER -- Matt Prater kicked a 64-yard field goal for the Denver Broncos as time expired in the first half on Sunday, a new NFL record for the longest field goal in a game.
Prater's kick narrowly cleared the crossbar and pulled the Broncos to within 21-20 of the Tennessee Titans.
Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints kicked a 63-yarder against Detroit on Nov. 8, 1970 to set the previous record.
That feat had been matched three times. Denver's Jason Elam also had a 63-yarder against Jacksonville on Oct. 25, 1998; Sebastian Janikowski of Oakland cleared a 63-yarder against Denver on Sept. 12, 2011, and San Francisco's David Akers kicked a 63-yarder against Green Bay on Sept. 9, 2012.
