Outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who was postseason hero for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011, was sent outright by the club to Class AAA Nashville and will declare his free agency instead.
Morgan, 32, fell into a deep slump this season and batted only .239 in 289 at-bats while ceding the No. 1 job in center field to OF Carlos Gomez.
Acquired from the Washington Nationals in a spring training trade in 2011, Morgan hit .304 with four home runs, 37 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 119 games to help the Brewers win the National League Central that season, their first division crown since 1982.
Morgan was also known for his light-hearted manner in the dugout, including impressions of teammates and other baseball personnel.
