Brewers' Gomez suffers knee sprain

The SportsXchange

Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez crashed into the wall after making a running catch and left Thursday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth inning with a sprained right knee.

Gomez ran down a hard-hit ball to center by Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips on the warning track and landed awkwardly. The team announced during the game that Gomez will have an MRI on the knee Friday.

The 27-year-old Gomez also has missed time this year because of shoulder, hamstring and concussion issues. He is batting .289 with 18 home runs, 55 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 113 games.

The Brewers have a long list of casualties this season that includes Mat Gamel (knee), Yovani Gallardo (hamstring), Rickie Weeks (hamstring), Corey Hart (knee) and Ryan Braun (suspension). Weeks underwent hamstring surgery on Thursday and his projected recovery is four to six months.
