Brewers' Fiers breaks arm, season could be over

The SportsXchange

Saturday was Milwaukee right-hander Mike Fiers' 28th birthday. It is probably a day he would like to forget.

The Brewers pitcher suffered a broken right arm on Saturday night when he was hit by a line drive while pitching for Triple-A Nashville. Adding insult to injury -- Fiers suffered the loss in a 6-3 defeat.

Fiers, who began the season in the Brewers' starting rotation, is expected to miss nine-to-12 weeks, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. Unless he is recalled in September, the injury effectively ends his season.

Fiers was hit by a shot off the bat of New Orleans' Kevin Kouzmanoff in the seventh inning.

Fiers started appeared in 11 games for the Brewers this season, starting three games. He compiled a 1-4 record with a 7.25 ERA.
