Recommendation: Gardner says he expects to be activated in the next day or two after missing most of the season with a strained right elbow. He's been hitting in the batting cage of late and said his body is feeling as well as it did prior to the injury. Expect Gardner to be used primarily as a pinch runner and defensive replacement for the rest of the regular season, and probably into the playoffs unless Gardner demonstrates that he can hit like he did pre-injury.
Today is National Draft Day:
Update: Gardner (elbow) will take live batting practice for the first time before Monday's game, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
