SAO PAULO (AP) -- Nicolas Anelka has a new club, agreeing to join Brazil's Atletico Mineiro.
The 35-year-old French striker parted ways with West Bromwich of the Premier League on March 14 after a five-game suspension for a racially charged goal celebration.
Atletico Mineiro President Alexandre Kalil tweeted that Anelka had a deal with the defending champion of the Copa Libertadores, Latin America's most important club competition. Atletico Mineiro's website confirmed his tweet Sunday.
Anelka was suspended for performing a gesture that is known in France as a ''quenelle'' and regarded as anti-Semitic. He and West Brom each claimed to have made the decision to cut ties.
