    China beats Austria for Olympic beach v'ball semis

    LONDON (AP) -- China has beaten Austria to advance to the women's beach volleyball semifinals, taking the Beijing bronze medalists one win away from clinching another Olympic medal.

    The pair of Xue Chen and Zhang Xi, which lost its first match in London, beat Austrian sisters Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger 21-18, 21-11.

    The Schwaiger sisters had finished 1-2 in pool play and were relegated to the lucky loser round.

    The Chinese will play the winner of the match between Americans Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the two-time defending gold medalists, and Italy.

    In the other quarterfinals, the No. 2 U.S. women's team of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross were scheduled to meet the Czech Republic and top-seeded Larissa and Juliana of Brazil were to play Germany.
