Brandon Manning of Flyers gets hearing for Stadium Series hit (Video)

When you’re playing in front of over 60,000 people in a nationally televised game, it’s a little hard to miss a shady hit.

So Brandon Manning – Philadelphia Flyers defenseman and president of the Connor McDavid Appreciation Society – was quickly called out for this questionable hit on Jake Guentzel of the Pittsburgh Penguins in their Stadium Series game at Heinz Field on Saturday.

It’s a hit that’s earned him a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety:

As you can see, Guentzel directs the puck to Sidney Crosby with his skate. Manning decided to take him out of the play with some interference, and in the process appears to connect with Guentzel’s head as the Penguins forward watches the play.

Manning’s delivered some questionable hits in the past, including this one on Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson. How much he gets dinged for here by the Department of Player Safety might depend on how many times he’s been warned about going high on opponents.
