Brandi Chastain Responds to Hope Solo’s Comments: Fan View

Brandi Chastain has responded to Hope Solo's Twitter comments about her announcing skills at the Olympic Games. Although Chastain has not turned to Twitter, she has shared her opinion in interviews on July 29. After the July 28 U.S. women's soccer match at the Summer Olympics, Hope Solo criticized Brandi Chastain who is NBC's official announcer. Now, Chastain has responded, but the U.S. team does not plan on punishing Solo.

    Brandi Chastain's Response

Hope Solo attacked Brandi Chastain on Twitter because she was unhappy about the announcer's criticism of defense and goalkeeping during the July 28 game. Solo mentioned that Chastain needed to "get more educated" and improve her skills. Brandi Chastain has responded by saying, "I'm here to do my job, which is to be an honest and objective analyst at the Olympics."

Brandi Chastain has refused to take the same attacking position as Hope Solo took on her Twitter account. Instead, she actually complemented the U.S. goalie, and said she was "very coordinated." Brandi Chastain also mentioned that she believes Solo "plays the villain," so her comments may not be sincere. NBC has not officially commented on the situation.

The U.S. Team Will Not Discipline Hope Solo

The U.S. soccer team does not plan on disciplining Hope Solo for her Twitter comments. Although the coach met with her on July 29, there will not be any sanctions. Solo is fortunate that this incident will not become a repetition of her experience at the 2007 World Cup. In 2007, her criticism of the coach led to her removal from the team. It seems the rules do not extend to NBC's announcers at the Olympic Games.

Hope Solo has not posted a response to Brandi Chastain's comments on July 29. Instead, she is celebrating her birthday and thanking fans. Solo turns 31 on July 30 and is also preparing for the U.S. match against Korea DPR on July 31 at the Old Trafford. Hopefully, the feud has ended, and the focus on the Olympic Games can return. Hope Solo is expected to be the goalie at the July 31 game.
