U.S. international forward Terrence Boyd returned to action for Rapid Vienna after a three-week absence and netted a valuable goal, scoring a second-half equalizer that allowed for his side to take a point off Red Bull Salzburg in a 1-1 draw Sunday.
Boyd, who last saw the field for Rapid Vienna on Aug. 11 against rival Austria Vienna, had been out with a shoulder injury. He made Rapid Vienna's bench for the club's Europa League playoff round second-leg triumph over FC Dila on Thursday but was not used. Instead, he started Sunday at first-place Salzburg and made his return count.
With Rapid Vienna trailing 1-0 after Stefan Hierlander's opener in the 43rd minute, Boyd pulled the teams level with a 65th-minute strike. Boyd received a layoff pass at the top of the box with Rapid Vienna in a 3-on-4 situation, but with Salzburg goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi pulled off his line, Boyd calmly slotted a first-time, right-footed shot into the goal for his third Austrian Bundesliga goal of the season and his fourth in all competitions.
