Boy Brings Dead Squirrel to School, Principal Obviously Calls His Mom

From Good Housekeeping

Oklahoma City mom Layde Hobson was at work earlier this week when her son's school called. Her first thought was that something bad had happened (maybe her son was hurt, or he had pulled a prank that had gotten him in trouble), but the school principal surprised her by greeting her with good news: Hobson's son Brylan had just made his principal's day, according to local news station KFOR, because Brylan's teacher had found a dead squirrel in his backpack.

Apparently, Brylan had told his principal that he picked up the squirrel and put it in his backpack because he "really wanted squirrel dumplings for dinner." To Hobson, this was absolutely mortifying. "Y'all, I had to explain that we are from the country, but we're not THAT country," she wrote in a now-viral Facebook post about the incident.

Brylan's principal asked Hobson if she wanted the squirrel to come home with her son, and of course, the answer was a resounding "no." The principal then sent Hobson a photo of the squirrel, which appears surprisingly at peace in the little boy's backpack. The mortified mother included the photo in her Facebook post, which has now been shared more than 125,000 times.

When Brylan finally came home at the end of the day, Hobson says he was embarrassed and fighting back tears. He apologized, telling his mom he wasn't sure what he was thinking when he packed up the dead animal. But Hobson couldn't even be mad. Her son had made his principal's day, after all - and sometimes kids just do the darndest things.
