Boston College fires coach Spaziani

The SportsXchange

Frank Spaziani was dismissed as Boston College's head football coach after four seasons, the school announced Sunday, one day after the Eagles finished a 2-10 season.

"A personnel decision of this magnitude affects many people and is never taken lightly, but I felt a change was necessary," BC athletic director Brad Bates said in a statement.

Spaziani had been on the Boston College staff for 16 years.

He was hired as BC's running backs coach in 1997 and was its defensive coordinator for 10 seasons starting in 1999.

He was named head coach in January 2009 when then-head coach Jeff Jagodzinski was fired for interviewing for the same position with the New York Jets.

Spaziani was 22-29 overall as the Eagles' head coach.
