The 2012-2013 edition of the Boston Celtics will be without a key component of the 2008 team that won the NBA championship. After five years with the Celtics, sharpshooter Ray Allen chose to sign with the defending NBA Champion Miami Heat as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Boston was able to replace Allen with two-yes that's right, two-quality guards with NBA Finals experience. Jason Terry and Courtney Lee will join forces with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rando in Boston this season.
Terry, who signed with the Celtics as an unrestricted free agent himself, is a former Sixth Man of the Year Award winner (2009) and was a primary contributor to the Dallas Mavericks' 2011 championship run. As a rookie, Lee, who Boston acquired as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers, played meaningful minutes for the Orlando Magic team that fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 NBA Finals.
Additionally, forward Jeff Green, who missed all of last season after undergoing heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm, will return to Boston's lineup. By getting Terry and Lee to replace the departed Ray Allen, the Celtics, with Green back in the mix, have quietly improved a lineup that was just eight minutes away from an NBA Finals appearance last season.
