The first Brazilian-born player in the Major Leagues will make his debut for the lone Canadian team. The Toronto Blue Jays purchased the contract of catcher/first baseman Yan Gomes from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace the struggling Adam Lind, who was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas. Gomes was batting .359 with a .956 OPS, five home runs and 22 RBI in 33 games this season with Las Vegas. The 24-year-old could see playing time at catcher and first base. Lind, 28, is in the third season of a four-year, $18 million deal. He batted .305 with 35 homers and 114 RBIs in 2009, but has regressed significantly since then. He was hitting .186 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 2012.
