Blue Jackets sign Gibbons

The SportsXchange

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Brian Gibbons to a one-year, two-way contract on Friday.

Gibbons, 26, had five goals and 17 points in 41 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins as a rookie last season. He received ice time on center Sidney Crosby's line after Pascal Dupuis had a season-ending knee injury.

Gibbons added two goals and an assist in eight playoff games. Both goals came less than a minute apart in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoffs against the Blue Jackets.

In 168 AHL regular-season games, Gibbons has 30 goals and 90 points.
